Writing Selves Workshop
ACT Writers Centre Workshop Room, Gorman House, Ainslie Ave, Braddon, Canberra, Australian Capital Territory 2612 - $30/24

UK performance poet Rosy Carrick will host a "Writing Selves" workshop which will focus on practical writing techniques, as well as group discussion, in order to invoke and manipulate a sense of identity (factual and fictional) in poetry and prose. The aim of this workshop is to challenge traditional ideas regarding the perceived autobiographical elements of writing - particularly within poetry, which is generally received as though it were an immediate or ‘personal’ writing medium. From this theoretical start point, we will explore both the creative and moral implications of ‘fictionalising’ the self, and the extent to which such a dynamic may be stretched or disrupted in order to create interesting and potentially uncomfortable uncertainties in our reader/audience, regarding the fiction/reality divide of our writing. The workshop is suitable for writers of all levels, and will be followed by a FREE performance in the Bogong Theatre from 7-8pm featuring Rosy Carrick’s own poetry, and at which participants are warmly invited to share what they have written to a public audience. Bring a friend and something to drink. http://www.actwriters.org.au/
